Energy bites are a great way to get through a workout or afternoon if you’re pressed for time. They fit in your bag and you can eat them on the go. But wouldn’t it be nice if you could make them yourself without all the nasty ingredients?

These oatmeal hemp energy bites have everything you need. The fibre in the oatmeal will fill you up and the peanut butter and hemp hearts will keep you full for hours. The healthy fats will keep your brain and belly happy, and the slight sweetness will give you the burst of energy you need. Plus, no cooking required.

Oh – and did I mention that kids really like these too? They’re great for the whole family.

Ingredients (makes 15-20 bites)

1 cup rolled oats

1/4 cup all natural peanut butter

1/4 cup maple syrup

1/2 cup hemp hearts

1 pinch sea salt

1/2 tsp vanilla

1/4 cup chocolate chips or dried cranberries (optional)

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix to your heart’s content.
  2. Leave in the fridge for about 10 minutes.
  3. Roll up into tsp-sized balls and place in a sealed container.
  4. Leave in the fridge until your sweet cravings hit!
  5. Prepare to be happy.

These keep for weeks in the fridge or freezer, but they won’t last that long.
