PTO to host World Triathlon Long Distance Worlds alongside Collins Cup
Challenge Family to organize huge weekend of racing including Collins Cup and Long-Distance Worlds
The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) announced last year that it would be offering age group racing alongside its elite events in the PTO Tour. Today we’ve learned that the organization will be hosting the World Triathlon Multisport Championships for the Long Distance, Aquathlon and Aquabike events alongside its flagship Collins Cup event at the x-bionicsphere in Samorin, Slovakia from August 18 to 21. The events will be organized by Challenge Family, who will be hosting its Championship event for the fifth time this year, and who put on the World Triathlon Long Distance World Championship last year in Almere, Netherlands.

Last year’s long-distance worlds were held over the full distance, in conjunction with Challenge Almere. This year’s race will be a 100 km event – 2 km swim, 80 km bike and an 18 km run – to go along with the PTO distances for the Collins Cup and its other Tour events this year.
The Aquathlon World Championships will take place on the Thursday over a 1 km swim and a 5 km run. There will be US$10,000 prize money for the men and women elites in the Aquathlon, with a US$90,000 prize purse for the long-distance world championships.
The addition of the world championship races promises to make for quite the weekend at the spectacular x-bionicsphere, a sports complex that offers high-end sports facilities.
