Ironman Canada “postponed” to 2022
New COVID restrictions in B.C. force Ironman to cancel 2021 event
It is now official – as we reported earlier today, the recent restrictions put in place in the B.C. interior mean that Ironman Canada can’t take place in Penticton in September. Here’s the statement from Ironman:
Over the challenging and constantly evolving landscape of the last year and a half, our team has continued to work hard in an effort to create the best event experience and welcome athletes back to the Ironman Canada – Penticton start line. We felt optimistic and had high hopes for the updated 2021 Ironman Canada – Penticton race date scheduled for September 26, 2021.
Unfortunately, due to the updated British Columbia Interior Health restrictions for events hosting more than 100 people, we regret to share that the 2021 Ironman Canada – Penticton triathlon cannot take place on September 26, 2021. The event is scheduled to return on Aug. 28, 2022.Â
This is certainly not the news any of us wanted especially at this point in time and we recognize that this latest setback is a significant disappointment after multiple event updates. Our goal remains to put on an exceptional event that meets the expectations of our athletes and host community.
All registered athletes will be receiving an email with more information. We look forward to welcoming our athletes back to Penticton, B.C. with a great event in August of 2022.
The email sent out to registered athletes gives them the following options:
1. Free deferral to 2022 Ironman Canada: August 28, 2022 (Automatic Option)
2. Free transfer to 2021 Ironman Maryland: September 18, 2021
3. Free transfer to 2021 Ironman Chattanooga: September 26, 2021
4. Free transfer to 2021 Ironman Waco: October 23, 2021
5. Free transfer to 2021 Ironman California: October 24, 2021
6. Free transfer to 2021 Ironman Florida: November 6, 2021
7. Free transfer to 2021 Select Blinds Ironman Arizona – November 21, 2021 (Limited Inventory Available)
8. Refund of entry fee (please note, processing refunds may take up to six weeks after the selection listing expires)Â
