Lionel Sanders training with world record beer miler

Could Sanders be looking to do the double - the IRONMAN and beer mile?

In his prep for the 2018 IRONMAN World Championship in a months time, Lionel Sanders did a training session with beer mile world record holder, Corey Bellemore. The two are natives of Windsor, ON, and friends from their track days at the University of Windsor.

Last year in Kona Sanders was passed in the final kilometres of the marathon by the sub 2:40 runner, Patrick Lange. With news of Jan Frodeno’s stress fracture and absence from Kona this year, it may come down to a footrace in Hawaii come October. Just a month out from the biggest race of the year, it appears Sanders is tapping into some speed by training with Bellemore and the Windsor Lancer Track team.

Bellemore’s world record beer mile time is 4:33.60. Sanders may be looking to develop some of this speed so he can challenge for the Kona beer mile. Historically, the professional IRONMAN field will compete in the Kona beer mile at the IRONMAN World Championship. Could Sanders be looking to do the double – the IRONMAN and beer mile?
