Ironman announces new full-distance race in Waco, Texas

Two new events announced for 2021

Last December we reported that all 12 full-distance Ironman races in Canada and the US were sold out for 2021. Much of that registration windfall is due to the fact that so many races had to be “postponed” last year (Ironman has an aversion to the word “cancel”) and entries were simply deferred to this year. That means, though, that a lot of keen, potential full-distance racers have been shut out of an opportunity to race in 2021.

That pent up demand will be met, slightly, with the addition of a new full-distance race in Waco, Texas, on October 23, 2021, the day before Ironman 70.3 Waco will be held.

“The demand we have seen for the full-distance triathlons since the beginning of the year is just astounding and we are delighted to bring an Ironman triathlon to Waco, Texas to create additional racing opportunities for athletes,” says Keats McGonigal, Vice President of Operations, North America for The Ironman Group.

Waco has been hosting a 70.3 race since 2018. In addition to the Waco event, Ironman hosts a number of events including Ironman Texas in The Woodlands, and 70.3 races in Galveston and Lubbock.

General registration for 2021 Ironman Waco triathlon opens on Monday, April 19 at www.ironman.com/im-waco.

Ironman 70.3 Salem

It has been a busy day for new Ironman events – the company also announced a new event in Salem, Oregon that will take place on July 25, 2021. It will be the first Ironman event held in the state.

Registration for the new event opens on Monday, April 12 at  www.ironman.com/im703-oregon.
