Kitchener’s Alex VanderLinden and Toronto’s Miranda Tomenson, outpaced all others to top the podium today at the Bracebridge Olympic Distance Triathlon.

Featuring a time trial start where athletes started the swim individually every 5 seconds, the race of truth was on, with no time to spare for anyone.

VanderLinden used the day to test himself and to to get himself back on track after a DNF at the 33rd Kingston Long Course Triathlon. Aside from the 1500m swim (21:08), VanderLinden posted top splits in the 42 km ride (1:03:11), and 10 km run (37:41) to stop the clock at 2:03:14 and defend his title. Milton’s Brandon Habermehl, winner of the Sprint Triathlon last year, took second (2:08:36), and Aurora’ Cameron Black finished third (2:15:49).

“It was a solid day on a tough course. I was glad to bounce back from Kingston, but I will be using the next few weeks before Georgina and Barrelman to figure out what the underlying problems that affected me in Kingston,” said VanderLinden. “I will need to be in top form to battle with guys such as Jordan Monnink, Jack Laundry, Andrew Bolton, and Mikael Staer-Nathan at Barrelman”
