Simon Whitfield inducted into Canada Sports Hall of Fame

The Olympic medallist joined eight other athletes inducted into the hall as part of the Class of 2017

On Thursday morning, Canadian sports icon Simon Whitfield was inducted into the Canada Sports Hall of Fame alongside a handful of other notable athletes. Whitfield, the gold medallist in the triathlon at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, has been inducted into many halls of fame and is recognized as one of the more influential Olympians in Canada:

“It’s going to be touching to see my face up there with all the past great Canadian athletes I idolized,” said Whitfield, ahead of the ceremony.

The 42-year-old is just the second triathlete to be inducted into Canada’s Sports Hall after fellow-Victorian and three-time Ironman Hawaii world champion Peter Reid.
