Setting the stage for Challenge Roth

Can Kienle break 7:35:39? Can Charles continue her dominance?

Start of the 2017 Challenge Roth Triathlon

This weekend Challenge Family hosts the 35th edition of triathlon in Roth, with Challenge Roth. The course in Roth is fast, enough to have been the course where Jan Frodeno set the quickest Ironman time ever, with his 7:35:39. This year Frodeno will not be attending Roth, but the professional field is packed with talent.

Sebastian Kienle will be the favourite in the men’s race, with Cameron Wurf and Jesse Thomas hot on his heels. With many of the sport’s top triathletes racing in Frankfurt on July 8th, can Kienle send a message to his rivals with a big performance? Will he take down Frodeno’s 7;35:39?

On the women’s side, the main favourite is 2017 IRONMAN World Championship runner-up, Lucy Charles. So far this season Charles has accumulated many top performances, recently winning THECHAMPIONSHIPS in Samorin earlier in June. Following her second place last year in Kona, Charles looks to be on target to give Daniela Ryf a run for the crown this October. Here in Roth, Charles will be up against top contenders, Kaisa Sali and Alicia Kaye.

Amongst all the names on the start list, there will be many Canadians racing on Canada Day. Among them is the John Salt (Founder of Multisport Canada) group. Salt, annually since 2010, has brought over a group of Canadians to race in one of the most festive races in the world. This year’s group will once again look to have a great day of racing and savour the European race atmosphere in Roth.

Be sure to watch the race live, live streaming begins at 2:30 AM ET and 11:30 PM PT (June 30th).
