Lionel Sanders has announced that he will return to Challenge Samorin, the host of The Championships, on June 3rd this year. The ITU World Champion has been vocal about his preference for the 20-metre draft zone, which Challenge Family designates for their events, and so the brand’s world championship half distance event has become one of his favourite events on the race calendar:
Last year, Sanders took the inaugural title after a hard-fought battle with 2014 Ironman World Champion Sebastian Kienle. Fans had expected an even bigger race between the two and Alistair Brownlee, but the double Olympic gold medallist pulled out mid-race unexpectedly. As a Challenge Family ambassador, we expect to see Brownlee return to the race next year… and another great battle to unfold in the inevitably stacked fields of international talent the race will draw.

What an unforgettable and hard fought battle until the end with @sebastiankienle. Had a great time at the @challengefamily @challengesamorin! The bar has been raised with a fair 20m draft zone and great live coverage! Congrats to everyone who persevered in that heat and to @michael_raelert for his stellar performance as well! .
