Triathlon fans will have a chance to watch Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant live this weekend as a number of the biggest names in Canadian long-distance racing jump on the opportunity to compete on home turf. This weekend’s race is the ninth stop on the Ironman Pro Series, featuring a US$50,000 prize purse, but more importantly, a chance for valuable points in the Pro Series.

Last year’s race was cancelled on race morning due to smoke from forest fires in the region that engulfed the race site.

Canadians highlighting the field this weekend include the 2022 champions Tamara Jewett (pictured above on the podium with Amber Ferreira and Rachel Olson) and Lionel Sanders, who is returning to racing after injuring his ribs shortly after his big win at Ironman 70.3 Oceanside in April.

After huge Oceanside win, Lionel Sanders now out for four to six weeks

Those two will certainly have lots of competition from the huge pro fields that are set to travel to the Laurentian Mountains about two hours outside Montreal. Canadian Olympian Paula Findlay, the runner-up at the 2022 Ironman 70.3 World Championship, is set to compete. Other notable competitors include Ellie Salthouse (AUS) and American Olympian and last year’s Ironman European Champion Sarah True. There are 46 women registered in the field – you can see the full list here.

While Sanders has enjoyed great success in Tremblant over the years – he’s won the 70.3 race five times – he’ll be taking on a couple of men who have also enjoyed some big days in Mont-Tremblant. Jackson Laundry won the race in 2019, while Cody Beals has won the full-distance race in Mont-Tremblant twice, beating Sanders on both occasions. Add to the mix the likes of Americans Chris Leiferman and Ben Kanute, along with super-cyclist Cameron Wurf (AUS), and you have the makings of an exciting and competitive day.

You can see the full men’s list (that includes 58 registered male pros) here.
