Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant cancelled due to smoke from forest fires

The smoke from the forest fires that have affected air quality in much of Eastern Canada and the United States has forced organizers of Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant to cancel today’s race. Here’s a statement from Ironman:

RACE CANCELLATION
In working with Provincial Health Authorities due to the Ash Alert and high concentrations of fine particles causing poor Air Quality Index (AQI) spreading across the Tremblant region, we regret to share that Sunday’s IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant triathlon has been cancelled for the safety of all involved. IRONMAN has strict safety benchmarks in place for air quality, which have not been met and the forecast does not suggest the AQI will improve throughout the day. It is always our priority to ensure the safety of our participants, spectators, volunteers, staff, and all others that are involved in the event. Athletes will be allowed to pick up their equipment between 6:30 a.m.- 8:00 a.m. Athletes are asked to minimize their time outside and consider wearing face covering. Athletes that are registered for the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant triathlon will be receiving an email with additional information. We appreciate your understanding during these extenuating circumstances.

Athletes woke this morning to the smell of the smoke and, as this picture provided by athlete Jeff Roberts shows, the air is extremely hazy.
