Long renowned as Canada’s toughest triathlon, the CanadaMan Woman Xtri triathlon begins at 4:30 AM with a 3.8 km swim in Lac Megantic, Quebec, then there’s a 180 km bike along the Route des Somme’s that includes 2,500 m of climbing, followed by a 42 km run that features 1,200 m of elevation gain and ends at the Mont Megantic Observatory. Like the famed Norseman XTri event, athletes must have a companion for the final stages of the run since it’s so tough. This year organizers introduced a Solo .5 race that allowed athletes to get a flavour of the Xtreme event over roughly half the distance.

Today at 5 pm, race organizers are airing the documentary that was produced on the event in Lac Megantic. For those who can’t get to the official opening, Triathlon Magazine will have the exclusive coverage of show on our website – click on the link below to watch the show.

We were on hand to cover last year’s race, too, as you can see from the galleries we posted.

Canada Man/Woman somehow manages to be even tougher in 2023: The day in words and pictures

Next year’s race will return to the fall, which will make for some spectacular scenery, but a very cold swim and potentially cold day.

Canada’s toughest triathlon just got tougher
