Canada and the USA managed to open a breakaway in the first leg as Brock Hoel and Seth Rider pulled clear for a 34-second lead as they passed off to Emy Legault and Erica Ackerlund. The American was able to pull ahead, passing off to Mathew McElroy with a lead. Liam Donnelly, who was a late replacement for a sick Martin Sobey, managed to team up with Brazil’s Manoel Messias to get within 12 seconds of the Americans as they started the final leg. American Gina Sereno wit the water with a 12-second lead, but Vitoria Lopes, who led a lot of the individual race only to finish out of the medals, was the deciding factor in the race. Lopes swam past the American to put Brazil in the lead and she never looked back as they took the win.

Jamnicky was able to get up with Sereno on the bike, but the American used her running background to pull clear and lead the Americans to the silver medal, with Canada rounding out the podium.
