A slippery ride and a fast run make for an exciting men’s race at WTCS Montreal – Photo Gallery #2

It all came down to the run as Montreal once again hosted many of the world's best draft-legal racers

With rain making the roads slick, just staying upright was a challenge for many of the men competing at the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) Montreal yesterday, but that didn’t seem to slow the men down at all for the final leg of the race – all of the men who finished in the top-10 ran under 15 minutes for the 5 km effort.

We look back at the exciting race through this photo gallery from Triathlon Magazine editor Kevin Mackinnon.

They’re off. The men dive into the water at Montreal’s Old Port for the 750 m swim.
Matthew Hauser would lead the way out of the water. Later in the day he would post the day’s fastest run, too.
Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk went down during the second lap of the bike, but was able to get back up to the group, but the effort affected his run.
Portugal’s Vasco Vilaca also went down on the bike. He managed to finish, though, which was all he needed to do to take the WTCS Series lead.
After coming out of the water over 30 seconds behind, Olympic champ Kristian Blummenfelt (front row, second from right) was at the front of the large pack heading into T2.
The run looked more like a 5 km road race than a triathlon for the first 2.5 km loop, although Hauser was already setting himself apart and starting to put pressure on the group.
Hauser would pull well clear over the final km of the run …
… his 14:23 run split was enough for an 11-second win over Manoel Messias and Jelle Geens.
Charles Paquet takes 7th, tying his best-ever WTCS performance.
Manoel Messias, Matthew Hauser and Jelle Geens enjoy the podium celebration.
