The Canadian triathlon community is mourning the loss of triathlete, coach and yoga instructor Caron Shepley, who passed away yesterday.

“Caron was always on loan to us from a stronger force and to have spent 35 plus years of my life with this amazing woman is better than winning any lottery,” her husband, Barrie Shepley wrote in a message yesterday. “As heart broken as I am at her passing, to have been in her orbit for so long, seeing all the great, generous, selfless things she has done for so many, while still making me a priority is humbling. Caron and I had lots of time to talk in her final year as the cancer advanced. She was not angry or bitter, but simply wanted to get the most out of each day to help people and animals have better lives. I am so grateful to have spent the majority of my life with this amazing woman. She cannot be replaced, but her kindness and generosity hopefully can be manifested by each of us in small important ways.”

“Caron’s footprint on this world is massive, even if only for 56 short years,” Barrie continued. “I hope her personal energy may continue to encourage and motivate each of us to love just a bit more, care just a bit more and make our own small imprint on the world.”

A parter with Barrie and Sheldon Persad with Personal Best, Caron offered a popular hike and yoga camp in Tucson that included two to four hour hikes and 90 minutes of yoga. She was also a 10-time Ironman finisher and won a silver medal in 1998 at the world triathlon championships in Nice, France.
