Ryf to donate any money she wins this weekend to the Red Cross

Five-time Ironman 70.3 world champion (and four-time Kona champ) Daniela Ryf says she will donate any prize money she earns at Ironman 70.3 Dubai tomorrow to Red Cross in Switzerland. The defending champion made the announcement on Instagram.

Ryf arrives in Dubai in seemingly excellent shape and as one of the favourites, but she’ll face some stiff competition, most likely from Germany’s Laura Philipp. We reported on the prototype bike and aerobars Ryf will be riding in the race last week.

With the world in turmoil after the invasion of Ukraine last week, Ryf says she will be donating to Red Cross Switzerland because they are helping people in need in Ukraine.

“The world is facing much bigger challenges at the moment,” Ryf says. “My thoughts are with the people in Ukraine and everyone fighting for peace around the world. That’s why for me tomorrow’s race lays under the sign of showing that we should fight in sport and not in war. The prizemoney I win tomorrow I will donate to @roteskreuz_ch, who helps the people in need in Ukraine.”
