Behind the scenes for Tamara Jewett’s COVID-19 cover shoot

A socially-distanced photo shoot in Uxbridge, Ont. allowed us to nail our July 2020 cover.

Gracing the cover of our July, 2020 issue is Canadian pro Tamara Jewett. The 30-year-old from Toronto adjourned to her parents house in Uxbridge, Ontario shortly after Canada shut things down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead of heading off to Ironman 70.3 California in the shape of her life, she found herself trying to maintain her fitness while isolating at home – she described how she was coping with the challenges here.

In early June our photo editor, Matt Stetson, and I headed up to Uxbridge for a socially-distanced photo shoot with Jewett. Here are some “behind the scenes” photos from the day.

Some pre-ride instructions from Matt Stetson.
The roads weren’t completely cleared out for us … but the dogs seemed as interested in Jewett’s riding as we were.
A former national-team runner, Jewett has used the time away from racing to work on her cycling.
Trying to nail the shot …
… you shoot from lots of different angles!
… and different vantage points.
Jewett gets to use this 53-metre long pond for her swim training.
It looks great in June … in March it was very, very, very cold.
All the swim training seems to be paying off …
