Mynewsla.com has reported that US Olympian and professional triathlete Jarrod Shoemaker is suing USA Triathlon. Shoemaker is married to Canadian-born pro Alicia Kaye. In an effort to stand up for atheltes’s rights, Shoemaker is suing the national governing for allegedly reducing the number of top athletes on the board of directors in violation of California law. The pro is asking that USAT be required to follow the California Corporations Code and return the number of athletes on the board to 25 percent instead of 20 per cent.

According to the complaint, the bylaws were changed by vote earlier this year to reduce the number of athletes on the board to 20 per cent, but “elite athletes” such as Shoemaker never had a chance to vote on the change.

The 32-year-old Shoemaker was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team and finished in 18th place in the triathlon. He was the 2009 world champion in the duathlon and the 2010 and 2012 USA Elite National Champion in the triathlon. Shoemaker and Kaye live in Florida.
