Triathlon Gear Frenzy Makes the Wall Street Journal

It’s no surprise to triathletes that we love our gear, but it’s news to the Wall Street Journal. Triathletes are presented as the target market for what a recent report calls “tools to suffer better.” Reporter Alexander Wolff is in awe of the athletic commitment necessary for triathlon, but she is noticeably astounded by the sport’s increasing reliance on technology. Wolff suggests that triathletes over-invest in and over-compensate with excessive gear. In a short online segment, Wolff says the sport, and in particular the Ironman, attracts older athletes who buy speed and  performance to level the playing field.
