Tokyo silver medalist (mixed relay) Morgan Pearson showed his running prowess in style on the weekend with a gutsy fourth-place finish at the USATF Cross Country Championships in Richmond, Virginia. Pearson, who qualified for the Paris Games this summer thanks to a brilliant sixth-place finish at the Paris Test Event in August, 2023, is a former University of Colorado runner who turned his sights to triathlon in 2017.

Pearson actually surged to the front over the last half of the 10 km race, and made another move with 2 km to go, but wasn’t able to match eventual champion Coope Teare’s winning move at the 9 km point and would eventually fade to one spot off the podium.

The top six finishers from the race qualify for the US team for the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia on March 30. We’ll have to see if that race fits into Pearson’s Paris preparations.
