McMahon wins Ironman 70.3 Augusta
After not being able to start his first Ironman at Lake Tahoe when it was cancelled last weekend, Canadian Brent McMahon opted to race Ironman 70.3 Augusta on Sunday showing he’s in phenomenal shape. McMahon won by over seven minutes dominating from wire to wire starting with a race fastest swim in the
Savanah River in 18:55. Viktor Zyemtsev of the Ukraine and Americans Justin Metzler, Jacob Rhyner and Justin Park (USA) followed a minute to two minutes behind. McMahon rode the fastest best bike split of 2:07:07 well ahead of the field and the ran the fastest run of 1:13 to break the tape in just 3:43. Zyemtsev would finish second in 3:50:27 and Park in third just 30 seconds behind him.
On the women’s side Lauren Barnett won with a comfortable margin in 4:11:33 followed by Canadian Sue Huse in 4:18:44 and American Haley Chura in 4:19:02.
