On May 12th, Patrick Lange (GER) got his triathlon season underway with a win at Ironman 70.3 Vietnam – the Asia-Pacific Championship. Finishing in 3:49:09, Lange held off challenges from Tim van Berkel (3:50:57) and Tim Reed (3:52:14) to secure an emotional win. Earlier in April, Lange mentioned a personal loss in his life just two days following his season debut at the Berlin Half Marathon. Following his Ironman 70.3 Vietnam win, Lange honoured Stefan with the win.
On the women’s side, Holly Lawrence followed up her win at Ironman 70.3 St. George with another impressive performance in Vietnam. Lawrence led from start to finish and took the win in a record-setting time of 4:04:41 (course record). She was followed by Sarah Crowley (4:08:55) and Radka Kahlefeldt (4:11:04).
Next up for Lange will be an Olympic distance triathlon in Kirchbichl, Germany, before the Ironman European Championship in Frankfurt. After two 70.3 races in eight days, Lawerence is expected to race Escape from Alcatraz and Ironman 70.3 Mont-Tremblant in June.
