As she continues the hunt for valuable qualifying points just to get to the final US automatic Olympic qualifying race (World Triathlon Championship Series Yokohama), Tokyo bronze (individual) and silver (mixed relay) medalist Katie Zaferes will compete at the upcoming supertri E World Triathlon Championship in London on April 13.

Katie Zaferes heads to Hong Kong as she aims for another Olympics

After having her first child in 2022, Zaferes finds herself seventh American in the World Triathlon rankings, which isn’t enough to guarantee her a spot at the final automatic qualifying race for the American Olympic team. She’ll be racing this weekend in Hong Kong as she tries to earn valuable qualifying points – the supertri E championships will also offer valuable ranking points as well.

Zaferes will face reigning world champion Beth Potter and her British countrywoman Vicky Holland, along with another Olympic favourite, France’s Cassandre Beaugrand.

The one-day world championship event will feature 60 athletes (30 women and 30 men) who will compete in heats in the morning. The evening final will feature 10 women and 10 men who will go after the world championship.

According to supertri:

The heats will consist of two stages of swim, bike, run with a short break between them and a pursuit start for stage 2. The finals will be the full supertri E World Triathlon Championship format (Swim – Bike – Run // Run – Bike – Swim // Swim – Bike – Run) with a pursuit start in stage 3.

The event will be streamed live – we’ll have more information on how to watch as we get closer to the event.
