The ITU World Cup Series heads to Chengdu, China this weekend. Chengdu is the capital of China’s southwest province of Sichuan. Although a premium Asian Cup event has taken place there, this the first time it will feature a World Cup race and has attracted a deep and abundant international field. The ITU race runs on Saturday and the age group events take place on Sunday.

Athletes will take on a flat course at Jin Tang, featuring two-lap swim in a man-made lake before a six-lap ride on a flat but technical course. The 10km run consists of four laps. The spectator-friendly venue was built with this event in mind.

In the elite women’s race Lisa Perterer of Australia is the standout hopeful. On the men’s side two Canadians will be towing the line: Taylor Reid and John Rasmussen. Jarrod Shoemaker (USA) is the top seeded athlete for the men’s race. The former NCAA track star has long been established on the ITU circuit and has numerous Pan American Cup podiums to his name.
