Ironman Canada-Ottawa will run through the heart of the country’s capital
National Capital Commission ensures closed parkways for full-distance race
A leaked website had spilled the beans a few days ago, but it’s all official now – Ironman has announced a new event in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa that will take place on Sunday, Aug. 3, 2025.
Just a few hours from Lake Placid and Mont-Tremblant, Ottawa could well become an addition to the Lake Placid race, and a replacement to the Quebec event. Last year was the last running of Ironman Mont-Tremblant, and this year is the 25th anniversary of Ironman Lake Placid. Ironman signed a two-year extension of the its contract last year, with discussions taking place for a renewal for the event in the Adirondacks.
Ottawa has long been known as a great place for outdoor activities, and is home to a number of triathletes. Thanks to the National Capital Commission the bike and run courses run through the heart of the city on completely closed parkways.
According to a release from Ironman:
The 2025 Ironman Canada-Ottawa triathlon will begin with a 3.8km (2.4-mile) two-loop swim in the Ottawa River from Britannia Beach and Park. From there athletes will embark on a 2.75 loop bike course using the completely closed parkways that pass through the city of Ottawa made available by the National Capital Commission. Once through the 180 km bike course, the athletes will transition to the run in the downtown core of Ottawa and start their marathon from the base of Parliament Hill. The two-loop course will utilize some of the same completely closed parkways the bike used but extended beyond those areas once again to trace along the Rideau Canal and the streets in front of Parliament. Athletes will enjoy a truly urban setting with a healthy dose of scenery along the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal.
