With the Malibu Triathlon seemingly heading off its schedule, Super League Triathlon (SLT) has managed to ensure it will have at least one California-based race in the future. SLT has announced that it will be “assuming the operation of the 2024 Long Beach Legacy Triathlon in partnership with USA Triathlon.”

The event had been organized by USA Triathlon and is set on the site of the proposed venue for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It will serve as a fundraising event for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA).

The race is scheduled for July 20-21 and will include:

  • A Sprint distance race (750m swim, 20km bike, 5km run) with both individual and relay categories
  • A Corporate Challenge event
  • A Kids’ Splash and Dash
  • A World Triathlon Para Cup event

This new event joins the New York and Chicago Triathlons as Super League properties in the United States. Today’s announcement describes a “long-term join venture” between USA Triathlon and SLT, but doesn’t offer any specifics on the duration of the agreement.

“With Super League now boasting mass participation events in major US cities Chicago, New York and Long Beach, we have the perfect platform to grow short course triathlon in the USA,” says Michael D’hulst, CEO and co-Founder of Super League Triathlon. “The partnership with USAT is one I am extremely excited about as we share common goals for the development of the sport and the potential for short course racing to thrive building towards the Olympics in 2028.”
