The Facebook posts (and media reports) might have implied we were going to see the man many consider the GOAT – Jan Frodeno – compete at Ironman Israel, but it turns out he’ll be there for promotion and to participate in a relay.

When the news first came out, we reached out to the Frodeno camp for more details, and were assured that the three-time Kona champ, two-time Ironman 70.3 world champion and Olympic gold medalist has definitely retired.

“He is, and will be, retired,” we were assured. Frodeno will be part of a “social/ fun relay” as the runner.

According to his Instagram feed, Frodeno has kept himself busy since his race in Nice, where he was forced to cruise through the run thanks to an injury, finishing 24th. The day after the race he did a ride with sponsor Zwift, and he’s just back from a whirlwind 72 hour trip to long-time sponsor Oakley.

Can Jan Frodeno win the Ironman World Championship in Nice?

So, while the bad news is we won’t get to see Frodeno race in Israel, the good news we haven’t seen the last of him around our sport.
