Estonia’s Rait Ratasepp is trying to set a new record for 60 full-distance triathlons (3.8 km swim, 180 km bike and a 42.2 km run) in 60 consecutive days. He’s doing this impressive challenge on the Canary Island of Fuerteventura – he swims in a 50 m pool at the Playitas Resort, takes on a windy and challenging bike course that features 1,810 m of climbing, then finishes with a marathon that includes 300 m of elevation gain.

A couple of days ago Ratasepp set a new record for 41 consecutive days of full-distance triathlons, breaking the record that had been held by France’s Ludovic Chorgnoni by 82 hours, 39 minutes and 54 seconds, with his time of 451:01:06.

“Day 41 was a turning point for me. I was so motivated to get to the next level with my challenge and to conquer one of my main goals. Day 41 was full of records – new world record, the fastest day in my challenge (finish time 10:28:07) and the best marathon time of all 41 – 3:05:53,” said Ratasepp after his big day.

The next day Ratasepp hit another milestone, getting his average for each of his full-distance efforts under 11 hours. He had been on track for that before he was hit by a car and had to ride a borrowed bike for a week, losing valuable time each day. After day 42, though, his average time was 10:59:50.

“I should have been on the schedule for less than 11 hours already on the day 15, but I was hit by the car and my bike was destroyed,” he said. “It cost me about ten hours of time. It took almost four weeks to make up for the lost time.”
