Daniela Ryf wins a triathlon on top Alpe d’Heuz

On Thursday, July 25th, four-time Ironman and Ironman 70.3 world champion won one of the most challenging long course races in the world – the Alpe d’Heuz Triathlon. Already in 2019, Ryf has won Ironman 70.3 Oceanside and Switzerland, Ironman Texas and Austria.
The course features a 2.2K swim in Lac du Verney, a 118K bike that passes over the Alpe du Grand Serre (1,375 m), the Col d’Ornon (1,371 m) and Alpe d’Huez with its 21 switchbacks. And then a 20K run along the trails and roads of Alpe D’Heuz.
Ryf managed to complete the course in sixth overall, 13 minutes behind the overall winner Romain Guillaume. She finished over 25 minutes ahead of Carrie Lester and third-place finisher Alexandra Tondeur.
On the men’s side, Guillaume used his swim-bike combo to open up an eight-minute gap on Alberto Moreno Molins heading onto the run. Molins would close the gap to nearly six-minutes, but it would not be enough as Guillaume won the race. Kenneth Vandendriessche rounded out the podium in third.
