Challenge Gold Coast Cancelled for 2015

Slider-5The Challenge Family announced today the cancellation of the 2015 Challenge Gold Coast event, the half distance race set for August 30. The cancellation seems at odds with the success of the inaugural event in 2014. Challenge Family and its organizing team, The Event Crew, explained that “the current economic climate has shifted and despite the best efforts of The Event Crew there were some insurmountable challenges that simply could not be resolved ahead of this year’s event.”

The debut race was shortened due to unseasonal rain and local flooding on the bike course which was reduced from 90 km to 40 km. The race was won by Tim Reed and Amelia Rose Watkinson and both were granted entry into the prestigious Challenge Bahrain for their efforts.

The Challenge Gold Coast team added that they only want to run a top notch event: “The priority has always been to ensure the best athlete experience while employing best business practices which it cannot deliver this year without adequate funding.”

The organizing team will be hard at work over coming months to restore the event for 2016. Registered athletes are being given full refunds for their entry fees.
