The top woman in the PTO World Ranking, Anne Haug, won’t be competing at this weekend’s T100 Miami event. The German star is coming off a stellar 2023 that included three wins (Ironman 70.3 Lanzarote, Challenge Gran Canaria and the PTO European Open) and three runner-up finishes (Challenge Roth behind Daniela Ryf’s world best, PTO Asian Open behind 2022 PTO ranking leader Ashleigh Gentle and in Kona behind Lucy Charles-Barclay’s record-setting day – pictured above).

After that stellar season, Haug would have arrived in Miami as one of the favourites.

“Did all the work to be ready for the first @t100triathlon race in Miami,” the German star wrote on Instagram. “But sadly life had other plans and I’m suffering health problems which make a start on the weekend impossible.”

Earlier this week Switzerland’s Imogen Simmonds also had to pull out of this weekend’s race – she went over on her ankle during a training run.

While the absence of these two contracted T100 competitors is sad news, the field for this weekend’s race remains impressive. While there where a number of the 20 contracted athletes who weren’t planning on attending this weekend’s race including Gentle and 2022 Kona winner Chelsea Sodaro (who just enjoyed a record-setting win at Ironman New Zealand on the weekend), this weekend’s race still promises to be an exciting one.

T100 Miami women’s field announced … and it’s going to be stacked

The top ranked athlete in the field will now be Kona champ Charles-Barclay, who is coming off an injury (a torn calf from Kona) – she had initially indicated she wouldn’t be racing in Miami, but must be confident enough with her return to fitness that she’s decided to give Miami a shot. Five-time Ironman and 70.3 world champion Daniela Ryf, who announced last week that she’ll be retiring after this year, is another of the women’s favourites, along with Kat Matthews and Paula Findlay. (The list could go on for a while longer, but we’ll let you click on the link above to add more names.)

We’re here in Miami this week, so stay tuned for more coverage.
