Amelie Kretz wins 2015 Wollongong OTU Sprint

It was a great day for Team Canada in Belmore Basin, Wollongong, Australia today. Canadians cleaned up at the OTU Sprint race. In the women’s race, Quebec’s Amelie Kretz won in 1:00:37, followed by teammate Sarah-Anne Brault in second in 1:01:34. The results bode well for the young elites. Hungary’s Margit Vanek took the final podium spot in 1:02. Kretz ran an exceptional 17:37 for her top spot while Brault ran 18:34.

On the men’s side Team Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk took third in 55:29 just eight seconds behind Christopher Hettich of Germany who was second in 55:21. As in the women’s race, Canadian teammates worked well together. Matthew Sharpe stayed close to Mislawchuk throughout the race finishing right behind him in fourth nine seconds back. Hometown favourite Australia’s Jacob Birtwhistle won in 54:58. Canada’s Alexis Lepage was 13th.
