2018 Major League Triathlon race season
The Major League Triathlon is the first and only professional triathlon circuit in North America
The Major League Triathlon is the first and only professional triathlon circuit in North America. The format attracts many of North America’s best male and female ITU triathletes.
The format
The triathletes compete in a Mixed Relay format for one of the eight MLT teams. Each team member races on a 300m swim course, followed by a 4-mile looped bike course, finishing with a mile run before tagging their next teammate. This style of racing offers action packed drama for spectators, in a sport that is often considered not to be spectator friendly. With the short distances, the racing is fast and unpredictable. Additionally, with eight teams across North America you can follow your favourite athletes and team like another other sports league; purchasing gear and attending events. CEO of MLT Daniel Cassidy says this racing format is an effort to “bring the sport into the mainstream… We want to grow the sport at an amateur level.”
The teams
Currently, the MLT is made up of eight teams across North America, including the Arizona Kingsnakes, Atlantic City Waves, Carolina Gliders, Colorado Peaks, Gold Coast Tritons, San Diego Stingrays, Florida Sun and the lone Canadian team, the Toronto Freeze.
Schedule
All eight teams will be competing in the four MLT events this season. The schedule is as follows;
July 21st in Atlantic City, NJ
August 4th in Avon, CO
September 22nd in Tempe, AZ
October 6th in Charlotte, NC (MLT Championships)
