The high-end S-Phyre models that sit at the top of Shimano’s cycling shoe line have long been renowned for the impressive mix of performance and comfort. That’s great news for cyclists, but left cyclists looking on in envy. That’s set to change in 2024, though, with the arrival of three new S-Phyre models, including a triathlon-specific version.

The S-Phyre line up has always provided excellent stiffness (for enhanced power transfer), a comfortable and form-fitting upper in a stylish shoe, and the 2024 editions are said to add to all that. (We’ll have more details in a future review.)

S-Phyre TR903

The new S-Phyre TR903 appears to be ready to fulfill the needs of triathletes of all levels who compete a variety of distances. From what we can see, shoe has lots of features to help with a fast transition (a big rear flap, a wide velcro strap and a BOA fitting system). Those features, along with the comfort and performance of the S-Phyre shoes, will no-doubt be attractive to long-course athletes, too. (World Championship podium finisher Braden Currie is seen above using the TR903).

The other two shoes in the line up include the XC903, MTB cross-country and cyclocross shoes, along with the RC903PWR, which are “tuned for road racing and high-power efforts … designed for track racers, sprinters and time-trial specialists.”

We’ll look forward to putting the TR903 shoes to the test when they become available in 2024.
