Hunt launches lightweight aero SUB50 Limitless aero wheel set

We’ve long been fans of the various Hunt wheel sets that we’ve reviewed over the years, and really can’t wait to get our hands on the new wheels the company just announced today. According to Hunt, the goal with the SUB50 Limitless Aero Disc wheels was to “create the fastest all-around road race wheel set up to and including 50 mm in depth for both 39 and 28 mm tires. With an Ironman World Championship taking place in Nice every year now, a wheel set like this one will be huge for triathletes who are looking for a lightweight wheel set for climbing that still provides the aero chops needed for triathlon racing.

The wheels feature a rim shape that’s 49.5 mm deep and 34 mm wide at its widest point on the front, while the rear wheel is 49.5 mm deep and 30 mm wide. That design makes the wheels extremely aero – according to Hunt the new wheels are the fastest wheels with rim depths of 50 mm or less on the market. (Of course we’ll want to review a set ourselves before we jump to agree on that front.)

The hookless carbon rim maximizes aero performance while reducing weight, with the TaperLock UD carbon fibre spoke technology providing lateral stiffness while also reducing weight. Hunt equips the SUB50 Limitless with its own hubs, with the rear utilizing a 40-tooth drive ring for increased engagement. The hubs weigh in at a paltry 332 g.
