Felt introduces new IAx – high-performance riding at a more affordable price

New models feature traditional fork while maintaining aero performance

Since Paula Newby-Fraser powered her Felt B2 to record-setting Kona wins, Felt Bicycles has been a mainstay in the triathlon bike space. Today the company is announcing a new model, the IAx, that manages to incorporate the company’s long-standing aerodynamic and performance legacy in a more affordable package. (And, yes, we know that C$4,700/ US$3,700 is still a lot to pay for a bike, but we’re comparing the IAx to other triathlon bikes on the market.)

While the IA 2.0 features the unique top tube that sets it apart from other triathlon frames out there, the regular IA frame has a more traditional look. The big difference with the IAx is that it uses a conventional fork rather than the bolt-on aero nose cone featured on the IA and the IA 2.0. The new design “maintains the core principles of aerodynamics, precise handling, and stable performance in windy conditions, offering triathletes a new level of accessibility without compromising on speed,” according to the folks from Felt. “As a benefit to the simplified design, traveling with the IAx has never been more convenient with an easier packing and re-assembly effort for the dedicated racer.”

In keeping with the bike’s long-distance roots, there’s an integrated CALpac 2.0 storage unit on the top tube to hold gels and bars, along with a BTSpac storage unit behind the seat tube for tubes and CO2 cartridges.
