She’s no stranger to advocacy or hard work, but Chrissie Wellington is attempting her longest challenge yet.  Wellington will join a Bristol-based trio to raise money for two charities by taking part in a 48 hour Three Peaks Challenge in May.

The group is calling the event the  “4321 Challenge” consisting of 43 km of running up the UK’s three highest mountains (Scafell Pike, Snowden and Ben Nevis) in 48 hours while riding the 724 km between the mountains on their bikes.

The self-organized fundraising event is for The Rainbow Trust (supporting families of terminally ill children in the UK) and Jole Rider (delivering bikes to African school children). Marcus Mumford, Alex Prince and Matt Edwards will join the fastest female triathlete in history in this pursuit.  All are veteran endurance athletes, but none have attempted anything like this.

Wellington had the following to say about getting involved in the 4321 Challenge:

“I’ve got a few ironman titles under my belt but nothing compares to my fear of undertaking this challenge! I usually get to stop at around 9hours – this time I have to keep going for 48! It’s going to be one of the hardest things I have ever done, but hopefully the most gratifying and definitely the most fun. It’s a fantastic opportunity to raise money for two hugely worthwhile causes whilst also ticking my masochistic box!”
