Canadian triathlons this August long weekend

There are numerous multi-sport races being held on Aug 3 and 4 with some offering ITU World Championship qualifying spots for age groupers

This August long weekend features quite a few multisport races across the country as many Canadians head out their cottages and the great outdoors. Here’s a short list of the many race events Canadians are participating in this long weekend.

 

The sold-out K-Town or Kingston Triathlon has its 36 edition of the Long Course Triathlon with swim, bike, run distances of 2K, 56K, and 15K respectively. It also features its near-sprint distance and duathlon race as well.

 

The Super League Ottawa race will be in its inaugural year this weekend as both pros and age groupers race the exciting new swim-bike-run format in short loops at Ottawa’s Lansdowne Park.

The XTERRA Conquer the Crater will be held near Sudbury, Ont. on August 4. The race features a number of different offroad multisport and running events with the main race being the Full Off-Road triathlon with a 1400m swim, 24K off-road bike, and 9K trail run. The Full-distance race also features 10 direct qualifying spots to the XTERRA World Championships in Maui.

The Elk Lake Triathlon located 15K from Victoria, will be held on Sunday August 4. For triathlon options it has both the sprint and standard distances. There is also a duathlon and aquabike race. The duathlon has two qualifying spots to the 2020 ITU Multisport World Championship Festival.

The 17th Annual Bridgetown Triathlon in Bridgetown, NS has a kids triathlon Saturday, August 3 and the adult race on Sunday, August 4. The Sunday races include tri-a-tri, sprint, Olympic, and Long Course options with the sprint race featuring one ITU 2020 World Championship Sprint spot per age group.

While not quite a triathlon, the Lake Windermere Aquathlon takes place on August 3 and 4 at Lake Windermere, BC. The Long Course race (1500m swim and 10K run) features two ITU World Championships qualifying spots in each age group for the Aquathlon event at the 2020 ITU Multisport World Championship Festival.

Triathlon de Gaspé is running its 6th edition on the eastern tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, 350K east of Rimouski. This event features quite a few race lengths including a super-sprint, sprint, Olympic distance, and half-iron distance triathlons.

Plage Aboiteau Beach Triathlon will be in its second edition on Sunday, August 4 in Cap-Pelé, NB. This race features a sprint distance as individuals or a relay team with the swim in the Northumberland Strait.
