Stephanie Roy caps off 2017 season with the win at Ironman 70.3 Cozumel
The young Quebec athlete had a race-best 1:24 half-marathon which helped her secure her second 70.3 win of the season.
Closing out a breakthrough season of 70.3 racing, Quebec’s Stephanie Roy won Ironman 70.3 Cozumel yesterday in dominant fashion, with three minutes on runner-up Leanda Cave yesterday. This is the 22-year-old’s second win of the year (after Ironman 70.3 Raleigh) and fourth podium. She clocked a 25:40 swim, 2:24:42 bike and race-best 1:24:59 run on her way to the win for a total time of 4:18:47.
“Ironman 70.3 Cozumel was amazing,” Roy told TMC after her race. “I was confident ahead of my race because it was my ideal conditions. I had a very good swim that allowed me to go out with extremely strong women to bike. I gave at my all to follow them. When I got onto the run, I knew one thing — such heat would be unforgiving The first five kilometres were horrible, nothing less. I had to concentrate and try to cool down as quickly as possible. After 5K it was better and I could show my strengths as a runner. I’m just delighted with this victory.”
On the men’s side, Cody Beals also clocked a great result earning fourth behind a strong podium of Terenzo Bozzone, Matt Chrabot and Mauricio Mendez Cruz.
