ITU Edmonton World Champs Gallery

 

The action has begun in Edmonton at the TransCanada Corp. World Triathlon Grand Final.  TMC‘s Jordan Bryden has caught some of the action.

 

The 2014 World Triathlon Series Finale started with the Aquathlon event on Wednesday afternoon. The Mens Pro race featured race favorite Tommy Zaferes who got food poisoning the night before the race.

The Women’s pro field in the Aquathlon had no clear favourite due to a smaller field size.

Japan’s Yuichi Hosoda ended up taking the win in a time of 24:18 when Zaferes faded in the last 2.5 km of the run.

Anneke Jenkins of New Zealand won in a time of  27:26, 30 seconds ahead of second place.

The Pro press conference featured Javier Gomez,  the Brownlee brothers, Gwen Jorgensen, and Jodie Stimpson.  Jonathan Brownlee mentioned his relationship with his brother might lead to an advantage on this challenging bike course.  Stimpson remained fairly serious, while Jorgensen seemed very relaxed.

Gwen Jorgensen is the heavy favourite for the win- after winning four WTC races so far this year.

Press participants were thanked with a presentation by  the  Captain of the Oilers NHL team, Andrew Ference. He gave them all Oilers Hockey Jerseys.

 Stefan Daniel is a huge favourite in the Paratriathlon event after a bronze medal performance at the London World Championships in the Mens T4 category.
