XTERRA Canada coming soon to Whistler

Canadian National Championships go September 5th.

When the XTERRA Canada National Championships roll into town on Sunday September 5th, racers can expect a course that will deliver the best Whistler has to offer in one of the most beautiful settings on earth. At the end of the day, nearly $10,000 will be handed out to the professionals and top Canadian amateurs will be crowned as National Champions. 40 World Championship slots will be available to all athletes from Canada and the USA.

The course is being designed by Grant Lamont who has been putting on major events in the area for over 20 years. He knows the trails and terrain intimately and has woven together a wicked track.

The Championship race will start with a 2 lap 1500m swim in crystal clear Alpha Lake with stunning views of the snow capped peaks and lush green forests that surround the valley.

The bike course features some of Whistler’s best trails with over 400m of climbing each lap on soft, purpose built single-track with incredibly well placed ramps and bridges over rushing creeks and green mossy forest floor.

There are also some fun and exciting technical features to keep you focused, but nothing that is too intimidating or dangerous, just challenging and exciting.

The bike course is roughly 12 km per lap which is mainly climbing and descending with lots of spots for passing. It will be fast and fun!

The run will take place on the rugged trails featuring a creek crossing as well as some steep ups and some downs. A fast flat finish into the luxurious grounds of our host Hotel, the Nita Lake Lodge, will kick off refreshments and a BBQ for all athletes. The run length is 5 km for the sport and 10 km for the championship distance and features close to 300m of climbing and descending each lap.

Come to Whistler and see why it is one of the best places on earth. Whistler’s altitude is 700m above sea level and the air is moist and clean!

Don’t miss out on this great event and a chance to party Whistler style! Inexpensive accommodations are available at the Olympic Athletes Village or treat yourself at the Nita Lake Lodge (shown above). Sport and Championship distance is offered with a team option in the Championship distance only. A duathlon is also available for those athletes looking to stay dry with the added bonus of a team duathlon.
