Tremblay wins ITU Clermont Sprint Triathlon
Jones secures second on his Cervelo S5.
Montreal’s Kathy Tremblay got out with the lead pack after the 750 m swim (10:56), stayed out front with the group during the 20 km bike (29:58), and simply outran everyone in that lead group during the final 5 km run (18:42), namely Kelly Whitley of the USA, to cross the line in first place (1:01:01). Americans Whitley (1:01:10), and Sarah Haskins (1:01:12) finished second and third respectively. Canadian’s Lauren Campbell (1:02:18), and Dominika Jamnicky (1:02:46) cracked the top ten with eighth and ninth place finishes.
In the men’s race it also came down to the 5 km run where Oakville native Kyle Jones (16:31) was unable to match the pace of American Jarrod Shoemaker (16:19). Shoemaker took the victory in 56:04, followed by Jones (56:11), and American Tommy Zaferes (56:15) closed out the podium in third.
Jones tweeted the following after the race – “Debuted my @cervelo S5 today at the ITU Clermont Sprint Pan Am Cup. My new machine helped carry me to the podium with a 2nd place finish!”
