The old draft zone is back for Ontario triathletes and duathletes

It is back to 5 x 2 metres.

After announcing last week that it was adopting the International Triathlon Union’s 12 x 5 metre draft zone for the upcoming season, Triathlon Ontario has agreed to go back to observing the previous draft zone of 5 x 2 metres.

To their credit, Triathlon Ontario listened to the many concerns voiced by athletes and race directors (namely MultiSport Canada and World Endurance Canada) regarding the impact of this rule change – difficulty in observing the rule, and trying to fit the suitable number of athletes on the course at a time to name a few – and decided to review this rule for the 2014 season.

Athletes competing at ITU events (such as the World Championships) or Triathlon Canada World Championship qualifying events, will still need to observe this rule unless advised otherwise.
