Ruben Ruzafa and Jacqui Slack take XTERRA Germany titles

Ruzafa's second win of the season and Slack's third overall victory.

Former XTERRA World Champion Ruben Ruzafa from Spain and XTERRA Triple Crown winner Jacqui Slack from the United Kingdom won the XTERRA Germany Championship on a beautiful day in Zittau on Saturday.

It marks Ruzafa’s second win of the season (he also won XTERRA Spain) and Slack’s third overall championship victory to go with her Saipan and Guam titles.

Ruzafa came out of the water more than two minutes behind the swim leaders before turning in the fastest bike and run times to take the tape in 2:25:02, more than five minutes ahead of runner-up and fellow countryman Hector Guerra.

It’s the third 2nd place finish of the season for Guerra, who has been in the top four five times this season and jumped past Nicolas Lebrun to take the lead in the XTERRA European Tour standings with just one race remaining. Likewise, Yeray Luxem from Belgium finished third for the fourth time this year and moved into second place in the standings. With elite racers counting their best six of eight finishes, everything will be decided at the Euro Tour finale at XTERRA England on September 8.

In the women’s race Slack didn’t have the fastest swim, bike, or run but combined to post the fastest overall time, a 2:50:02 – nearly two minutes ahead of runner-up Kathrin Muller who had the fastest swim and run times.

Two-time XTERRA European Tour champ Helena Erbenova had her five-race win streak snapped despite posting the best bike split.
