Pro Triathletes ready for Triathlon Internacional de Portocolom
The race formerly known as TriStar Mallorca goes Sunday April 7.
The Triathlon Internacional de Portocolom is attracting more and more international professional and age groupers athletes who will race on April 7 one of the earliest Triathlon races of the European season. Portocolom, under 111 and 55.5 formats, will show an interesting start list with many pros fighting for the victory in this stunning Mediterranean village.
Many professionals will be lined up on April 7 at the start line of the Triathlon Internacional de Portocolom 2013. Germany is leading the 111 race participation with some favourites such as Andreas Dreitz (4th in 2012 edition), Till Schramm (3rd at TriStar Worms and likely the one who raced the most this fun distances) and the young Matthias Epping. Swedish Andreas Linden is one of the athletes who can also win the race due to his strong cycling performances (he’s a former pro cyclist). Linden knows perfectly Mallorca and the format (was second at TriStar111 Madrid) and is winning some local competitions (Duathlon de Arta). This short-swim format suits nice for former cyclists, as German Marcel Wüst who will try to be the fastest at the climb to the top of Sant Salvador mountain, with a special prize. There will be also some local top athletes. Juan Antonio Fernandez and Joan Nadal will lead the “Spanish Armada” amongst many others.
In the female PRO field, Danish Tine Holst, top Dutch duathlete and triathete May Kerstens -reigning Long Distance Duathlon WC bronze medallist, German Susan Blatt (4th at the European IronMan Championship) or Hungarian Zsuzsanna Harsanyi, winner of the BalatonMan in 2012 or double Big Man Prague champion are the shining names at this moment. Austrian Bianca Steurer will race the 55.5 format. More women will confirm in the next days their participation.
Many stars of the Triathlon constellation have raced already here in Portocolom such as: Chris Macca McCormack, Normann Stadler, Olivier Marceau, Joerie Vansteelant, Philip Graves, Marcel Zamora, Alejandro Santamaría, Richard Calle, Andy Fuchs, Lothar Leder, Eimear Mullan.
The authentic village of Portocolom is located in the southern half of the east coast of the Balearic island of Mallorca, about 70km from Palma. The village belonging to the municipality of Felanitx is popular for not providing mass commercialisation – so those looking for water parks and endless karaoke bars will need to look elsewhere. Portocolom has the largest natural harbour of the island, and claims to be birthplace of Christopher Columbus, whose voyages led to general European awareness of the American continents.
Under 55.5 and 111 formats, the international Triathlon de Portocolom is back to its traditional date (April 7) early in the European season in one of the most beautiful spots in Mallorca with more than 300 already registered triathletes. Triathlon Portocolom is replacing the former TriStar Mallorca after two successful editions. The fun course will be exactly the same, with the double and thrilling Sant Salvador cycling climb.
