Oliver Half Iron
Tichelaar and Shaw win.
Edmonton’s Paul Tichelaar set the new course record (3:58:39) at the Oliver Half Iron (2 km swim, 93 km bike, 21.1 km run). On the cover of the current issue of Triathlon Magazine Canada, he swam 25:31, biked 2:11:15, and ran 1:17:56. His bike split created just enough of a lead to stay away from Penticton’s Jeff Symonds – who had the top run of the day (1:15:15). Seattle’s Rhae Shaw took the women’s title in 4:30:34. She swam 30:57, biked 2:24:22, and ran 1:30:44. Shaw got to the front of the race during the bike, took a 3:27 lead onto the run, and held on for a comfortable 2:16 margin of victory.
