Normann Stadler Retires

Four weeks after heart surgery.

As announced on the Commerzbank Triathlon Team website today, Germany’s Normann Stadler has retired from professional triathlon racing.

After undergoing heart surgery at Heidelberg University Hospital on July 4th to repair a failing heart valve and a nearby aortic aneurysm, the 38-year-old two time Ironman World Champion (2004 and 2006) simply stated the following.

“I am flattered that so many people believe in my comeback. Nevertheless I know that I wouldn’t be able to achieve a world class level again,” said Stadler.
