Macca is coming to Challenge Penticton

McCormack will be in town race week to support and promote the event.

Challenge Penticton is proud to announce the involvement of international-level pro athletes for the augural North American Challenge race.

Chris “Macca” McCormack will be in Penticton, B.C. in August for the pre-race festival leading up to Challenge Penticton. The legendary athlete’s resume includes more than 200 races around the world since 1993, and podium finishes 88 percent of the time. He has won 76 percent of events in his career.

“We are so honoured to have Chris join us in celebrating a new era of triathlon in Penticton,” said Paul McCann, Challenge Penticton board chair. “Not only are his achievements unparalleled in triathlon, but his values toward sport, training and personal growth are completely in line with those held by Challenge Penticton.”

Macca is one of the most decorated professional triathletes in the history of the sport. He has won 12 iron-distance victories – more than any other male – and is the only person to have ever won Olympic and professional iron-distance races. He is a five-time International Triathlete of the Year, four-time Competitor of the Year and was named ESPN’s World’s Fittest Man.

While Macca had already formalized his 2013 race itinerary, the world-renowned triathlete wanted to support the Challenge Penticton event by meeting the community and taking part in local festivities.

In addition, Challenge Penticton is excited to announce four more internationally recognized athletes – Lothar Leder, Belinda Granger, and Penticton’s own Janelle Morrison and Jeff Symonds – will bring a host of records, accolades and experience to the course.
