Keinle and Cave win in Miami
Tisseyre takes second, Tomenson-Bharadwaj wins age group.
Germany’s Sebastian Kienle and Great Britain’s Leanda Cave won today’s second edition of Ironman 70.3 Miami.
Kienle, who raced a stunning 7:57:06 at Challenge Roth in July, was well back from the leaders (close to 4 minutes) after the swim in Biscayne Bay. He rode his way back into the race with the top bike split of 2:01:54, and then ran 1:13:53 to take the win in 3:47:01. Fellow German Michael Raelert was the only one to run faster (1:13:14) but he surrendered a bit too much time after the bike ride and had to settle for second (3:48:01). American Matt Reed finished third (3:49:37).
Cave, third at the recent Ironman World Championship, simply dominated the women’s race. She posted top splits in all three segments to earn her victory (4:13:35). She swam 20:01, biked 2:20:39, and ran 1:22:42. Canada’s Magali Tisseyre came from behind with a second best 1:23:25 half marathon to claim second in 4:21:12, and Great Britain’s Emma-Kate Lidbury maintained her third place position throughout the race (4:23:11). Vancouver’s Rachel McBride crossed the finish line in seventh (4:35:20). Scarborough’s Miranda Tomenson-Bharadwaj finished 11th overall and won the women’s 25-29 age group. While Joseph Garcia of St. Albert, Alberta took first in the men’s 65-59 category (6:05:26).
