Ironman 70.3 St. Croix Preview

Naeth, Kriat, Bozzone, Potts, and Armstrong headline Sunday's race.

Sunday’s Ironman St. Croix is shaping up to be another day of exciting racing.

Featuring the famous “The Beast” climb (600 feet and averages 14 percent of incline), Ironman St. Croix’s challenging bike course favours the cycling skills of Canada’s own Angela Naeth, who finished second last year to the UK’s Catriona Morrison. Fellow Canadians Marie Danais, Jenny Fletcher, Stephanie Ossenbrink, and Sara Gross will join her on the start line. Challenging Naeth for the win will be Germany’s Nina Kraft, and Americans Mary Beth Ellis, and Kim Loeffler.

On the men’s side, the Ukraine’s Maxim Kriat is back to defend his title, and he can look forward to battling it out with the 2010 winner Terenzo Bozzone of New Zealand, Argentina’s Oscar Galindez, Belgian Frederik Van Lierde, and Americans Andy Potts, and Lance Armstrong. Canadians Dave Harju, Grant Burwash, Tyler Lord, Eliot Holtham, and Ryan Power will be in the mix in a race that should feature on heck of a bike battle.

Ironman 70.3 St. Croix is one of the few 70.3 races that offers age groupers both Ironman Hawaii Qualifying spots (30), and Ironman 70.3 World Championship spots (30).
